In the world we live in, there is barely a time when we don’t have our eyes set on a screen of some sort. In the morning we pop the news on the television and check out social media via our smartphone. We keep our eyes glued to the boob tube while we eat breakfast and make sure to shoot off that email via our tablet before heading out of the office to sit in front of a computer all day. Sure, there are some of us whose lives are not bound by that description, but there are many of us that can relate to one or more scenarios we just illustrated.

The truth is, too much of anything, including the internet, is not good for you. Not only can too much internet time jeopardize your mental health, but too much screen time, in general, can also have a serious effect on your sleeping patterns.

Is Sleeping Important?

Sure, it is. This is a no-brainer really. All of us reading this, at one time or another, have had to stay up far too late and know how we have felt the next day if we didn’t have time to sleep in. This happens because, when you are looking at your devices, and text or email, your body becomes stressed. In response, your adrenal glands produce cortisol.

What Happens When You Don’t Sleep?

We love our devices as much as the next person, and it seems that we will be only moving forward with technology and hopefully not backward. Yet, by looking at your device all day you are compromising some seriously important things in an exchange with keeping connected.
